Why Franklin Elementary School? Why Franklin?

Franklin Elementary School serves over 400 children in Early Childhood and grades K-6. For over 60 years, we have been educating children in a compassionate, responsive, and nurturing environment.

We have a diverse population with specialized programs to meet the needs of our varying students and we work with outside agencies to provide the best possible learning environment for children and families. We also have a strong parent community that offers additional opportunities for children and families.

What makes Franklin special?

We educate the whole child, recognizing not only their individual learning needs also their social and emotional needs.  Children are much more than a number to us - they are family. Over the course of seven years we develop lifelong relationships with our students and their families. Many of our families have shared via our annual school survey why Franklin is special to them:
  • “The caring staff and the way you keep parents informed.”
  • “The teachers go above and beyond to help my child.”
  • “It’s about the kids!”
  • “The safety precautions that are taken.”
  •  “I love how well run the school is and the very friendly and approachable principal.”
  • “Great, close knit community feeling and conveniently located.”
  • “Open communication with teachers and admin.”
  • “Focus on respect, and encourages parent involvement.”
  • “Staff cares about kids and offers support to help improve and develop skills in difficult subject areas.”

Growing Learners

Student reading and math progress is monitored closely at Franklin. Teachers, principal, and support staff meet regularly to make sure each child’s educational needs are being met. Whether your child needs special education support, English Language Support (ELL), or acceleration;  we see children as individuals, not as numbers. We have specialized time built into our school schedule to provide intervention, enrichment, or practice to promote the success of all students.

Growing Citizens

Franklin has a strong character education program with social skills lessons, monthly character assemblies, and monthly student incentives to recognize positive student choices. Staff use behavioral data to proactively insure a responsible, respectful and safe school climate. Franklin has many individualized opportunities to assist children in being successful. Franklin has been recognized several times by the Department of Public Instruction for its commitment to behavior education program, as well as our reading program.

Strong Community Involvement

Franklin offers a variety of opportunities for community and family involvement.  We have partnerships with the Fox Valley Humane Association, Hmong-American Partnership, Kohl’s Department Stores, Tri-County Dental, Lion's Vision, Appleton Public Library’s Hmong and Hispanic Outreach, and United for Reading Success.

There are opportunities for everyone to become involved in our Franklin school community, such as: PTO participation; attending our Veteran’s Day, Talent Show, Choir/Art Shows, ELL Family Nights; various family activity nights; attending a Muffins and/or  Donuts with Me event; or being a volunteer in the classroom.

Please join us for a fun and interesting learning adventure!

As the first school in the Appleton Area School District to offer Reading to Canines, Franklin is in its seventh year of continuing the program with the Fox Valley Humane Association.
